ESG Fund Inflows Haven't Regained Their 2007 Peak, Yet

Net flows into ESG mutual funds still haven't regained their pre-financial crisis peak, but they are on the upswing again.

The folks at Morningstar recently provided MFWire with data on ESG fund flows for the ten years ended June 30, 2015. 2007 was the top ESG flows year, with the funds bringing in $2.62 billion in net inflows. In 2006, they brought in $2.41 billion.

ESG funds have had some tough years since then. 2008, 2009, and 2010 all saw net inflows, at best reaching half of 2007 levels, but ESG funds' net flows swung negative in 2011 and 2012. They netted $1.90 billion in flows in 2013, and $911 million last year. 2015 looks on pace to surpass most of the post-crisis years (other than 2013); in the first six months of this year, ESG funds brought a net $740 million in flows.

All told, ESG funds have brought in $12.7 billion in net inflows in the past decade.
