A Big Apple sports team bigwig just joined the board for a Chitown family of mutual funds.

John W. Rogers, Jr.
Ariel Investments
Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager
Ariel Investments founder, chairman, and CEO John Rogers confirms the appointment of New York Knicks general manager Steve Mills to the board for Ariel's six funds. Mills joins after Carl McCall, chairman of the State University of New York (SUNY) system, retired from the Ariel fund board earlier this month.

Mills worked at Chemical Bank, the NBA, Madison Square Garden, and Magic Johnson Enterprises before taking over as general manager of the Knicks two years ago. Before all that, Mills and Rogers were college buddies at Princeton.

McCall previously served as New York State's comptroller, a New York State senator, ambassador to the UN, commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, commissioner of the New York State Divison of Human Rights, and president of the New York City Board of Education.

Other members of the Ariel fund board include: Rogers himself (who served from 1986-1993 and rejoined in 2000); William Dietrich, retired executive director of the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation (on the board since 1986); Melloby Hobson, president of Ariel (on since 1993); Christopher Kennedy, chairman of Joseph P Kennedy Enterprises (on since 1995); James Compton, retired president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League (on since 1997); Merrilyn Kosier, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Ariel (on since 2003); William Lewis, managing director and co-chairman of investment banking at Lazard; James Williams, vice president and chief investment officer of the J. Paul Getty Trust; and Kim Lew, vice president and co-CIO of Carnegie Corporation of New York.
