Thursday, July 24, 2003 Junk Team Follows Janus Manager Sandy Rufenacht's team did indeed follow him away from Janus. Three members of the Janus high-yield bond management team are reportedly joining Rufenacht to a new hedge fund shop. Until recently, Rufenacht was the lead portfolio manager on the Janus High-Yield Fund. Those joining him at Three Peaks Capital include trader Mary Cooper and analysts Craig McMullen and Adrian Shopp, reports Reuters. All three started working at the hedge fund this week. Rufenacht told the news agency that he expects to gather between $250 million and $300 million of assets in the near term. Janus responded to the news with a statement that said it sees these as an opportunity to leverage its bench strength in building a new team. The fund is now being managed by Michael Buchanan who joined the firm from BlackRock. Meanwhile, Gibson Smith took over the Janus Short-Term Bond Fund from Rufenacht.
