Kan You Jam? Expect Miracles Wants You!

After putting together Expect Miracles Foundation’s largest event ever earlier this year, Frank Heavey is keeping the ball rolling with two fundraisers almost back to back.

On March 29, the foundation will hold an event called Finish Line Fundraiser to support its 2017 Boston Marathon Racing Team.

And the following week on April 7, the charity will hold its new Kan Jam Classic fundraiser in New York. Expect Miracles Foundation’s young professionals group will host the event at the Chelsea Piers Field House.

The foundation was established 22 years ago by Frank Strauss of Accenture. And Heavey is its executive director.

“We wanted to hold an event that enabled our supporters to do peer-to-peer fundraising,” said Heavey. “And our young professionals group thought of Kan Jam.” The group is comprised of financial executives aged 21 to 39 who are raising money to support the Expect Miracles Foundation. The New York leadership team is led by Matt Mackay who is an executive director with J.P. Morgan.

The night will involve teams of two to four raising $500 and competing in round robin style Kan Jam competition. People who are not interested in playing can get a ticket for $25 and enjoy the tournament.

The young professionals group in Boston has hosted their own Kan Jam event for two years now, raising over $18,000 last year. And this year they will be competing with the New York group to raise the most money. At the end of the year the winner will get a “Kanley Cup” based on the NHL's Stanley Cup.

Funds collected from this fundraiser will go toward the research at Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Center for Experimental Therapeutics and the Expect Miracles Foundation Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is either undergoing treatment or has survived cancer.

The Foundation has a goal to raise $2 million this year. It has three more cornerstone events planned this year: on June 8, the 23rd annual East Coast Classic Charity Golf Tournament, at Pinehills Golf Course in Plymouth, Massachusetts; on October 12, the ninth annual West Coast Classic Charity Golf Tournament at the Resort in Newport Beach, California; and on November 9, the 14th annual Expect Miracles Wine & Spirits Charity Event at House of Blues in Boston, Massachusetts.
