Meet Michelle Seitz, Russell's New Chief

The new chief of Russell Investments [profile] is commuting 4.5 hours each way to the Seattle headquarters, but she'll move out there this summer.

That's one tidbit shared in the Financial Times' profile of Michelle Seitz, who took over the TA Associates-backed manager of managers in September.

The profile offers fundsters inside and outside of Russell glimpses into the mind and life of Seitz, who spent last 21 years at William Blair Investment Management (including 16 as its chief) before joining Russell.

Some other tidbits in the article include: Seitz lives in Chicago with her five kids (ranging from 11 to 18 in age) and her husband, who in the FT's words "runs an investment banking and advisory company" but is unnamed in the article; her mom (and maybe a cousin and an aunt) will also make the move to Seattle; she comes from the portfolio management side of the business, working at NationsBank and Concord before joining William Blair; she's a big fan of allowing employees "to work flexibly"; it was a high school trip to the Chicago Board of Trade that inspired to start down the investing career path; and she thinks "that it's gotten much better" for women in asset management.
