Waggoner Resurfaces

John Waggoner is back.

John Waggoner
Kiplinger
Senior Associate Editor
This month Vienna, Virgina-based Waggoner joined Washington, D.C.-based Kiplinger as a senior associate editor, 401kWire has learned. Waggoner had been freelancing since leaving InvestmentNews in June.

"I'll be covering basically everything in personal finance," Waggoner tells MFWire. "You can pretty much write about anything as long as it relates to money, and almost everything relates to money in one way or another."

Waggoner praises Kiplinger, which publishes the Kiplinger Letter and Kiplinger's Personal Finance, as "kind of an institution in Washington."

"They're straight shooters, and I like that," Waggoner says. "Everybody there is basically kind of an investment nerd, so I'll fit right in."

Waggoner will continue to cover the mutual fund industry, though not exclusively.

"Oh, sure, I'm always going to be part of that world and bothering people in the asset management industry and talking about funds and ETFs," Waggoner says. "But I'll also be doing other stuff which I find interesting, too."

An alumnus of Northeastern, Waggoner spent two years as a senior columnist and mutual funds reporter at InvestmentNews. Prior to that he spent more than 25 years as a reporter and columnist at USA Today, writing about mutual funds and other personal finance and investing topics. He also was a senior editor at the Independent Investor.
