A Parisian Acquirer Hunts For U.S. Fund Firms

The chief of a European shop that invests in asset managers is hunting on this side of the pond.

Philippe Couvrecelle
iM Global Partner
Founder, Chairman, CEO
Philippe Couvrecelle, chairman and CEO of iM Global Partner [profile], tells Institutional Investor that he aims to buy up a distribution platform (for example, a mutual fund family) here in the U.S., for packaging up the wares of its various portfolio asset management companies around the world. Normally iM Global buys stakes (like a 45-percent stake in Dynamic Beta Investments last fall), not entire shops, but it sounds like Couvrecelle would make an exception for such a distribution-boosting deal.

Meanwhile, Couvrecelle also tells the magazine that he's continuing to hunt for asset managers to buy stakes in. He says he's particularly interested in managers in certain out-of-favor areas: U.S. fixed income shops, U.S. value equity shops, international value shops, and European equity shops.

Last March iM Global hired Philadelphia-based Jeffrey Seeley. The top AMG veteran now serves as iM Global's U.S. chief operating officer and head of distribution. Meanwhile, Jose Castellano recently joined iM Global as deputy CEO and head of international business development.

iM Global (formerly iM Square) first launched in 2013. Its backers include Amundi and some other big European institutional investors.
