Thursday, July 11, 2019 MFS Hires a 23-Year OpFunds Vet A former vice president and senior advisor consultant at OppenheimerFunds, Tom Schmitt, recently left the firm and joined MFS as a director. A spokesperson from Invesco did not immediately return a call for comment. In May of this year, Invesco acquired OpFunds. At MFS, Schmitt "will be responsible for the metro New York area, focused on a mix of broker/dealer, bank and independent firms," a spokesperson at MFS told MFWire. "He is filling an open position due to a retirement." Schmitt now reports to Thomas Jessee, managing director of US retail and wealth management group at MFS. Schmitt is a member of a broader team of directors covering the metro New York area, including: Craig LoConte, Mike Miller, Ben Hobson, and Andrew Diamond. A University of North Carolina Chapel Hill alumnus, Schmitt served at OpFunds for 23 years; he began at OpFunds in 1994 where he remained for more than five years as a regional sales representative. In 1999, he moved over to Fidelity Investments where he served as the vice president for more than a year before switching back to OpFunds where he held his most recent title as vp and senior advisor consultant.
