Who Will Succeed Fink?

There is already speculation about who will succeed Matthew Fink as president of the Investment Company Institute. One possible path, reports Barron's, is for the ICI to lure a political heavyweight to bolster its standing in Washington.

A early possibility could be Billy Tauzin.

Tauzin is currently a member of Congress from Louisiana serving in the House of Representatives. He has a relatively high profile in the house as Deputy Majority Whip and is known as a fiscal conservative. Tauzin could be a bridge to Congressional leadership and help to repair the now frayed relations between legislators and the fund industry.

He could also bring the ICI into the Washington loop. The trade group has come under some criticism for seemingly being blind-sided by recent legislation (namely the Mutual Funds Integrity and Fee Transparency Act of 2003) and regulations enacted by the SEC.
