Huisman succeeds Scott Schulenburg, who is shifting to a client relationship management role. According to the UMB team, their transfer agency's assets have increased more than 87 percent in less than fives years under Schulenburg.

Huisman has 30 years of experience in the industry. Prior to starting this new position, he was the head of alternative product solutions at California-based Envision Financial Services, Inc. There Huisman reported to Brian Jones.

Envision is currently looking for a new hire in Huisman's former role as head of alternative product solutions, Envision CEO Satnam Gambhir tells MFWire. The hiring process has started and hasn't stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic, he adds.

At UMB, as senior vice president director of transfer agency, Huisman will oversee the transfer agency business, which services mutual funds and alternative investments and which experienced a 42 percent increase in assets under management in 2019.

"Now more than ever, product evolution is driving transfer agency service innovation. Mike's skill set allows us to service increasingly diverse product sets while maintaining our high-touch client service and competitive pricing," stated Maureen Quill, executive vice president and executive director of registered funds at UMB Fund Services.

Before Huisman's time at Envision, the majority of his career was spent at DST Systems where he remained for 28 years until 2019. Most recently, his position at DST was as director of software development.

Huisman is chairperson of the Institute for Portfolio Alternatives Technology group, an active member of the Information Management Network and ADISA, and has a seat on the NICSA Alternative Investment committee. Huisman received a bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Iowa State University and a certificate in Data Science and Applied Analytics from Rockhurst University.

Schulenburg had been UMB senior vice president director of transfer agency since 2015. He received a Bachelors of Science in Economics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
