Harbor Gains SVPs on Opposite Coasts

Two sales executives have landed in brand-new positions at a Windy City fund shop, joining right as the firm is also launching a selection of new ETFs. Each hire brings with them more than fifteen years of experience in asset management distribution.

John Steve Halaby
Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc.
Head of Distribution
Stephanie Shuler (previously vice president at New York City-based Blue Owl Capital) and Dale Korman (previously regional director at Austin, Texas-based Sage Advisory) both recently joined Chicago, Illinois-based Harbor Funds as senior vice presidents and regional investment consultants. Shuler started with Harbor on October 18, Korman on September 22.

Outside spokespeople for Blue Owl did not return an email for comment. A Sage marketing representative did not return a call for comment.

"Both Dale and Stephanie were hired as mutual investment consultants," says John Halaby, head of distribution at Harbor. "They are what I call 'franchise owners,' and are responsible for new business development and relationship management with the RIA community, the banks, and financial advisors within their [respective] regions."

Korman will cover the Southeast, focused on Georgia and Florida. Shuler will cover Northern California and the Pacific Northwestern states. Both new hires report directly to Halaby.

Halaby tells MFWire, "They are the two newest hires, but there is an open position right now that we're recruiting for in Texas, and we're really excited about that. In terms of our distribution organization, we're continuously hiring."

"We're extremely excited that they both decided to join [us on] the Harbor journey. We think we are uniquely positioned to bring distinctive strategies and solutions to our clients and to the marketplace, and to do so at the level and pace that the marketplace is demanding," he says.

"Just yesterday we launched another ETF, one that is designed to be a hedge against inflation," Halaby adds. "We're going to launch another ETF next Thursday and to have folks like Dale and Stephanie in their markets, being able to tell the Harbor story, is really exciting for us."

Halaby concludes, "Obviously I wish them the best of luck, but I know they're going to do great things for our firm."

Shuler was with Blue Owl from 2017 to late 2021 and, prior to joining the company, served as senior regional vice president with Neuberger Berman for three years. From 2011 to 2014, she was a vice president and regional coordinator with Prudential Investments. For four years before that, she served as an RVP for Ameriprise. Shuler was with an internal wholesaler with John Hancock and Janus. She is an alumna of the University of Michigan.

After joining Sage Advisory in 2020, Korman stayed with the firm until late 2021. Prior to joining both Harbor and Sage, he was an IAR with Korman Wealth Management for eleven months. From 2016 to 2019, Korman served as a VP and wholesaler for First Eagle Investment Management. For nine years before that, he held a number of wholesaling roles with Neuberger Berman. He also served as an analyst with BlackRock. He is an alumnus of Penn State University.
