A Pru Alum Joins a $1.21T-AUA Firm's C-Suite


Earlier this month, a new top strategist has come aboard at a $1.21-trillion-AUA (as of December 31), $326.3-billion-AUM (as of March 31) Emerald City fund firm.

In mid-June, Al Caesar joined Seattle-based Russell Investments as chief strategy officer. He most recently served as head of strategy for U.S. businesses at Prudential Financial.

Pru spokespeople did not respond to a written request for comment.

A spokesperson for Russell writes to MFWire, "Al brings more than 22 years of corporate strategy and investment experience to Russell Investments. He will support and drive the execution [of] our global strategy, leading our strategic planning, corporate development, and corporate communications functions."

Caesar is a more than twenty-year veteran of the industry and a former Naval intelligence specialist. He joined Prudential in 2012 as a vice president of U.S. strategic initiatives and cross-business growth. In 2016 he was promoted to head of strategy for the company's NextGen Innovation Lab, where he remained for a year. In 2017, Caesar was promoted to chief strategy officer in the individual solutions group for annuities and life insurance, where he remained until 2018. That year, he was promoted to his last position with Pru as head of strategy.

Prior to joining Prudential, Caesar served as a senior research analyst and portfolio manager for AllianceBernstein, an engagement manager at McKinsey, and a cryptologist and surface warfare officer with the U.S. Navy. He is an alumus of the United States Naval Academy, Georgetown University, and the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.
