In 2023, a Top Distro Leader Will Leave a $541B-AUM Firm

A top distribution leader is slated to depart the American wing of a Australian multinational asset manager at the start of next year. This particular exec will take with him more than a decade of experience with the firm, which as of September 30 had A$795.6-billion-AUM ($540.7 billion).

Outgoing Head of the Americas Client Solutions Group
Last month, Brett Wright, head of the Americas client solutions group for Sydney-based Macquarie Asset Management, released word that he will soon take a break in his career and focus on what's next. Wright is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and hailed from Delaware Investments before it was rebranded by Macquarie in 2017.

A Macquarie spokesperson confirms to MFWire that Wright's responsibilities will be spread across the team and that there are no plans to replace Wright. That team includes wholesale distribution leader Rachel Jacobs and institutional sales leader Paul Ames.

"I'll be leaving Macquarie in early 2023 as the head of the Americas' Client Solutions Group, leading distribution across institutional and intermediary clients, Trustee and Chief Executive for the Optimum Fund Trust, and member of the Public Investments Executive Committee," Wright states.

He continues, "It was a privilege to work here for 12 years and leave with grace and gratitude."

Wright started with Delaware in 2011 as a Western division sales manager. In 2014, he was promoted to head of third-party distribution, where he remained until 2016. That year, he was promoted to co-head of the client group. In 2020, Wright became head of the Americas client solutions group.

"2023 will begin with a much-deserved break focused on my family, and health and strategically approaching the question of what is next in my career," he writes. "My near-term milestones include an appreciation tour of influential figures in my life, taking inventory of my leadership shadow, evaluating career goals, and traveling."

Prior to joining Delaware, Wright was a senior vice president in key accounts for ING Investment Management from 2008 to 2011. For two years before that, he was a director of investment products with AXA Distributors. He served as a regional sales manager for alternative investments at Merrill Lynch from 2005 to 2006. Between 1998 and 2005, he was a regional sales manager and regional director, respectively, for Lord, Abbett and Co. and Furman Selz Capital Management. Wright is an alumnus of Penn State University.
