Yesterday, the teams at Great Place to Work and Fortune unveiled their 2024 list of the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For. The Great Place to work team has been gathering data for 30 years, and this year's list is based on a survey of more than 1.3 million U.S. employees; only employers that aren't goverment agencies and that have at least 1,000 U.S. employees each are eligible for the list.

"The survey enables employees to share confidential quantitative and qualitative feedback about their organization's culture by responding to 60 statements on a five-point scale and answering two open-ended questions," the Great Place to Work team explains. "List rankings are based on this employee feedback, which we analyze to detemine the extent to which this experience is shared by the full workforce."

In the mutual fund business, Nationwide tops this year's list, ranking 21st. That's same as in 2023 and 2022. (Before that, Nationwide ranked 25th in 2021, 9th in 2020, 57th in 2019, 53rd in 2018, 54th in 2017, and 71st in 2016.)

Next up is Edward Jones (home of Bridge Builder Funds), which ranks 31st this year, up from 62nd last year. (Before that, Edward Jones ranked 35th in 2022, 20th in 2021, 7th in 2020 and 2019, 5th in 2018 and 2017, and 10th in 2016.)

Baird ranks 34th this year down from 23rd in 2023. (Before that, Baird ranked 27th in 2022, 32nd in 2021, 13th in 2020, 16th in 2019, 12th in 2018, 4th in 2017, and 6th in 2016.)

Allianz Life ranks 98th this year, down from 77th in 2022. (Before that, Allianz Life ranked 52nd in 2021, 33rd in 2020, 43rd in 2019, 40th in 2018, 100th in 2017, and 80th in 2016.)
