Franklin Mutual Exec Opens Own Fund Advisor

Franklin Mutual CEO and CIO David Winters has jumped ship to launch his own fund shop. Winters has filed paperwork with the SEC to launch a global value fund that will be advised by Wintergreen Advisers, a Mountain Lakes, New Jersey advisor founded by Winters.

The fund will carry the Wintergreen Fund name that should keep its portfolio managers surname at top of mind.

Winters has been at Franklin since the San Mateo-based fund shop purchased Michael Price's Mutual Series funds in the mid-1990s.

Franklin will fold its Franklin Mutual into a value group that will be headed by Peter Langerman and Bill Lippman. Langerman himself recently rejoined the firm after along with Philippe Brugere-Trelat.
