Brady Hires a Successor For a Key 28-Year Thornburg Vet

Reported by Lauren Corradi

A $38-billion-AUMA mutual fund firm's chief recently hired a successor for a C-suiter who's saying goodbye after more than 28 years with the shop.

John Vincent Hackett
Thornburg Investment Management
Chief Marketing Officer
Jason Brady, president and CEO of Santa Fe, New Mexico-based Thornburg Investment Management (Thornburg), recently confirmed the hiring of Chicago-based John Hackett as the asset manager's new chief marketing officer. Hackett most recently served as global head of product marketing at Northern Trust Asset Management.

A spokesperson from Northern Trust did not immediately return a call for comment.

Hacket succeeds Leigh Moiola, who served as chief marketing officer at Thornburg since 2018, and is retiring after more than 28 years with the firm.

In his new role, Hackett will oversee the development and execution of the Thornburg's marketing strategies on a global level and will report to Brady.

"We are thrilled to welcome John to Thornburg as he brings a unique mix of global marketing, investor and distribution experience," stated Brady. "Throughout his career, he has consistently been a driver of growth with a deep asset management expertise and a passion for evolving brands, investment solutions and digital strategy. We expect John to have an immediate and sustained impact, enhancing our global marketing and growth initiatives."

"Thornburg has a commitment to investment excellence and creating value for its global and diverse set of clients and I'm excited to join the team," stated Hackett. "A proven investment foundation with leading global equity, fixed income and multi-asset strategies makes for a tremendous growth platform from which to offer compelling investment solutions to financial advisors and institutional investors globally."

"Over the years, Leigh has made numerous contributions to Thornburg. She has inspired and energized colleagues and members of the Santa Fe community. We thank Leigh for her leadership and wish her well as she embarks on her next adventure," stated Brady.

A Purdue University alumnus, Hackett received an MBA in finance and policy studies from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining Thornburg last month, Hackett was co-founder and adviser to Omnetrium, and he served at Northern Trust Asset Management for more than three years as global head of product marketing. Prior to that, Hackett served at the Townsend Group for nearly three years. Hackett additionally served at Calamos Investments, Nuveen Investments, Merrill Lynch, and Strong Capital Management, in several areas, including marketing, product management, and alts.

A Virginia Commonwealth University alumnae, Moiola received an MBDA from the University of Phoenix. She served at Thornburg since 1991, joining as a marketing associate, then promoted to vice president in 1997. She was appointed to marketing director in 1999, and most recently chief marketing officer in 2018.

Editor's Note: A prior version of this story's headline gave the wrong tenure for Moiola. She has worked with Thornburg for more than 28 years.
