BlackRock [see profile] is now a brand name in retail distribution thanks to a flurry of deals, including the purchase of MLIM from Merrill Lynch. It was the MLIM deal that brought Frank Porcelli to BlackRock. He had joined the wirehouse in 2005 after spending time at Putnam Investments, Goldman Sachs and Smith Barney Mutual Funds.

Don't look for more deals from BlackRock in the near future. Porcelli recently told Reuters that "I don't see a lot what we can't do right now," when asked about more deals after the purchase of BGI.
