Company Press Release

DENVER – Janus Capital Group Inc. (“JCG”) (NYSE: JNS) today announced two senior-level appointments aligned with its efforts to enhance relationships and meet the evolving needs of clients around the globe.

Andrew B. Weisman, 52, has been appointed Senior Vice President, leading the development of JCG’s alternative and multi-asset client solutions, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Richard M. Weil. Soonyong (“Suny”) Park, CFA, CPA, 44, joins Janus as Institutional Client Strategist, reporting to Susan Oh, Senior Vice President and Head of the U.S. Institutional Group. Both roles are new to the firm.

“Attracting investment industry experts and thought leaders such as Andy and Suny represents our continued focus on providing leading-edge talent, strategies, and risk management solutions for our clients,” said Weil. “The powerful combination of their extensive experience increases our ability to help Janus clients develop a better understanding of risk and how to successfully manage it during a very volatile time in the market.”

Weisman has 25 years of experience in portfolio construction and risk management, particularly in alternative asset management strategies, and is Janus’ subject-matter expert and thought leader on asset allocation. Using proprietary asset allocation methodologies, Weisman will assist Janus clients in combining both traditional and alternative asset sources of return.

Prior to joining JCG, Weisman was a partner at WR Platform Advisors, Inc., a technology platform and service provider of managed accounts, risk analytics, and investor reporting for hedge funds. Previously, he was Managing Director and Chief Portfolio Manager for Merrill Lynch’s Hedge Fund Development and Management Group, and served as Chief Investment Officer for Nikko Securities International. These roles involved the development of risk management products, analytical tools, and trading methodologies.

Weisman has published an extensive collection of articles on asset allocation and risk issues related to hedged portfolios. His research awards include the impressive Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy Award for Outstanding Article published in The Journal of Portfolio Management in 2002 and the 2003 GAIM Research Paper of the Year. He has a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College, a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University, and was awarded a doctoral fellowship to Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, where he completed all coursework and comprehensive exams toward a PhD. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Financial Engineers (IAFE).

Park will lead institutional client strategy, provide thought leadership and research on institutional pension and strategic asset allocation issues, and partner with Janus’ investment team, along with Weisman, to meet client needs. Leveraging his years of experience with public and corporate plans, endowments and foundations, and insurance and financial firms, Park will work with institutional clients to provide problem-solving insights regarding the strategic issues their plans face today.

Park is a veteran of the institutional investment management business, most recently serving as Head of Global Portfolio Solutions and Co-Head of Research at Rogerscasey, where he led institutional thought leadership on topics such as strategic and tactical asset allocation, plan structure, governance policies, and manager research. He was a member of Rogerscasey’s leadership team and its Fiduciary Investment Review Committee, which oversees all discretionary pension assets. Previously, Park was Head of Traditional Manager Research Group. He received a master’s of business administration from the University of Chicago, a bachelor’s degree in accounting from The King’s College, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

“Our clients face increasing complexity in managing investment risk, and the pace of change in asset allocation is significant,” said Weil. “Andy’s and Suny’s combined expertise enhances our ability to offer our clients greater insights and unique solutions to the challenges they are facing today.”
