An Asset Management Firm Finds a Marketing Head


John Hancock Funds [profile] has hired Karen McCafferty to serve as senior vice president and head of marketing.

McCafferty joined the company on December 10 and reports to Andrew Arnott, president & chief executive of John Hancock Funds.

She was previously with Sovereign Bank and held positions at Putnam [profile] and the Boston ad firm Hill Holiday.

In November, Carey Foran Hoch, a senior vice president who oversaw the marketing of all of Hancock's mutual fund products, as well as served as general manager of Hancock's college saving business, was hired away by Fidelity [profile].

John Hancock Funds Names Karen A. McCafferty To Head Marketing



BOSTON, December 18, 2012  – John Hancock Funds said that it has hired Karen A. McCafferty as Senior Vice President and head of marketing.  Ms. McCafferty, who joined the company on December 10, reports to Andrew G. Arnott, President & CEO of John Hancock Funds.

“Karen is a collaborative leader with deep industry experience who will help us continue to build the John Hancock Funds brand and enhance awareness of our position as a world-class provider of asset management solutions. We are very pleased to welcome her to John Hancock,” said Mr. Arnott.

Most recently, Ms. McCafferty was Senior Vice President, Director, Marketing, Communications and Corporate Affairs, with Sovereign Bank (Santander) in Boston, where she was responsible for all bank-wide marketing and communications.  Prior to that she held several positions at Putnam Investments in Boston, including Managing Director, Group Director, Retail Marketing Communications, where she oversaw the planning and development of marketing and communication plans in support of the firm’s retail mutual funds and products across multiple distribution channels.  Earlier, Ms. McCafferty also was a Vice President with the advertising firm Hill Holliday in Boston.

Ms. McCafferty holds an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a BA from Boston College.
