Will Hedge Fund Ads Attract More Investors?


Ever since the regulatory change allowing hedge funds to advertise, reporters have been exploring whether or not hedge funds will compete with mutual funds and other investments. WSJ reporter Daisey Maxey adds a story into the fray, interviewing advisory firm and hedge fund firm executives.

Overall, there appear to be a lot of disagreements as to whether hedge funds will lure investors away from mutual funds. Maxey interviewed Charles Stucke, chief investment officer at Guggenheim Investment Advisors [profile], which offers hedge funds, who said it will help raise awareness and educate investors at alternative investments.

Jim Holtzman, an advisor at Pittsburgh-based Legend Financial Advisors expects to hear from clients who have seen the advertising and want to inquire about alternative investments, Maxey wrote. Whether or not the ads will reach less sophisticated investors, or simply confuse all investors, is another question Maxey's sources raise.
