Scott Powers has resurfaced to help guide the parent company of another large, Boston-based mutual fund shop.

Toronto-based Sun Life confirms that Powers joins the Canadian insurance giant's board of directors today. Sun Life is the parent of U.S. mutual fund shop MFS [profile].

An alumnus of Harvard, Powers retired earlier this year at age 56 after leading SSgA [profile] as president and CEO for seven years. Prior to that he led Old Mutual Asset Management and held top jobs at Mellon and the Boston Company. He also serves on the Systemic Risk Council.
