An Ex-Hancock ETF Distro Exec Joins an Indexer

The folks at a Big Apple indexer recently welcomed a new ETF industry veteran to their ranks.

Carly Briden Long
MSCI
Executive Director, ETP Client Coverage
Last month, Carly Long joined New York City-based MSCI as executive director in ETP client coverage. She most recently served as director of ETF distribution on the West Coast for Boston, Massachusetts-based John Hancock Investment Management.

A spokesperson for John Hancock did not return a call or email for comment. An MSCI spokesperson did not immediately respond to an emailed inquiry for this story.

In a LinkedIn post, Long writes, "It is with mixed emotions I say goodbye to my friends and colleagues at John Hancock. Over the last 7 and a half years, I have had the good fortune of learning from, and working alongside, an amazing group of professionals."

"I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with these individuals and while this brief public note can't express my gratitude sufficiently, I hope I've done so elsewhere privately," Long adds.

She joined John Hancock in 2014 as an internal business consultant, working her way up to an ETF business development consultant in 2019. From 2019 until her departure in June of this year, Long served in her most recent role as the director of ETF distribution.

Long continues, "I [am] embarking on a new adventure with MSCI Inc. as ETF Relationship Manager, with the privilege of engaging with various ETF issuers on index solutions, both existent and proposed."

"I'm grateful for this opportunity to work at a firm respected for its research, data and technology at an exciting time for the ETF industry and I'm looking forward to working with new colleagues across MSCI's extensive organization!"

She concludes, "Thank you to my coworkers and clients at John Hancock. You've been key partners in my personal and professional growth story; I hope I was able to return the favor in some small way and if not, there's still time! Don't be strangers!!"

Prior to joining both MSCI and John Hancock, Long was a financial advisor with Edward Jones from 2012 to 2014. For five years before that, she worked as the co-founder, owner, and creator of Karledu Shoes and BareBeauty cosmetics brands. From 2001 to 2003, Long was a heavy-wheel vehicle mechanic for the Army National Guard. She is an alumna of the University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts.
