data showing that index funds' market share rose by 1.4 percentage points in 2008 to 13.2 percent. Index funds saw $17.6 billion of net inflows last year, while actively managed stock funds posted net outflows of $221.8 billion. At the end of 2008, index funds held $490 billion of assets, while actively managed stock funds had $3.2 trillion.
