Once again a survey has found that individual investors have ratcheted up their expectations for future returns in the stock market. The most recent study, released yesterday by Opinion Research Corporation International, found that investors are now looking for a 17.4% annual return on their investments over the next decade. This figure is well in excess of the 10% to 11% average return in the post-war period. Most disturbingly, the early boomer generation (those currently 45 to 54 years old) have the highest expectations. This group is hoping for a 22.9% return on average.
