While other investment managers are trimming staff, at least one firm is adding to its headcount. Rochester, New York-headquartered
Manning & Napier Advisors is expanding its sales team, said
Chuck Stamey, managing director of client relations, in an interview.

The employee-owned firm, whose
Pro-Blend Maximum Term Series made headlines earlier this year for beating the S&P 500 Index
for 10 straight years, hired one senior institutional
sales representative in New York City and another in Philadelphia.
The two joined the firm "within the last 30 days," bringing the number of institutional sales representatives to 22, Stamey said. He did not identify the new hires.
In addition, Manning & Napier has made an offer to fill a Tampa-based post and is looking at candidates in California, Stamey said.
"It's unprecedented to see this many superior candidates available in the employment market," he said. "For us as a privately held firm with a long-term view, we're taking advantage of this opportunity."
The sales team reports to Stamey and
Patrick Cunningham, both of whom have the same title and are part of the company's five-person executive group.
Manning & Napier has 325 employees.
