FBR Makes a 5Star Acquisition

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

FBR Asset Management Holdings' new acquisition just came to light. In October, CEO Richard Hendrix reportedly revealed in an earnings call that the fund firm was about to buy a "smaller fund group," boosting its mutual fund business by 20 percent, and on Monday FBR unveiled a deal to absorb the AFBA 5 Star Funds.

The deal awaits final approval from AFBA shareholders in February.

"We believe our shareholders will continue benefiting from the strong investment track record of the AFBA 5Star Funds, as well as gain access to the attractive performance record of The FBR Funds and its team of highly professional and experienced portfolio managers," stated Robert E. Morrison, Jr., president of AFBA 5Star Funds and chief investment officer. "Our shareholders will also benefit from lower ongoing costs."
