John Hancock Funds is adding staff. In an interview, Keith Hartstein, president and CEO of the Boston-based fund firm, said Hancock is scouting for hires to cover RIAs, broker-dealers and consultants.

Hancock is adding two external wholesalers in its RIA-focused team. That team currently consists of two externals and four internals.

The firm is also adding one person to work with gatekeepers at b-ds to get Hancock's funds on recommended lists. That person will join Gary Bieda, who will start at Hancock next month. Chicago-based Bieda is currently a principal at Robeco Investment Management's intermediary sales team.

Also, Hancock is adding one person to cover consultants, which would bring the number of consultant-centric salespeople to two.
