WisdomTree [see profile] may soon be traded on the Nasdaq or the NYSE. Yesterday the New York-based ETF specialist filed with the SEC to list its stock (ticker WSDT, currently traded on the pink sheets) on an unnamed "national securities exchange [see filing].

There are currently 14 national securities exchanges, according to the SEC [see list]. Stuart Bell, a spokesman for WisdomTree, confirmed that the listing "does not entail the issuing of new stock" and provided a hint as to where the company might list when leaving the pink sheets behind.

"We meet listing requirements for the Nasdaq and NYSE Amex," Bell told The MFWire in an e-mailed statement. "We believe we currently remain on track for a late Q2 or early Q3 listing."

WisdomTree specializes in fundamental indexing and manages more than $11 billion in 46 ETFs. As of March 21, the mutual fund firm had 115,460,300 shares of stock outstanding at $5.75 per share, for a market cap of almost $664 million, and the firm had more than $14 million in cash on hand as of December 31.
