The folks at
Rice Hall James [see profile]
 and
Virtus [see profile] may be
busting out the champagne today. In the
Wall Street Journal's monthly
"Investing in Funds" special section, Suzanne McGee
unveiled Tom McDowell's $103-million
Rice Hall James Small Cap Fund and
Todd Beiley's $84-million
Virtus Small-Cap Sustainable Growth Fund as the number one and two top
performing U.S. equity mutual funds over the past 12 months. (Beiley works for
Kayne Anderson Rudnick Investment Management.)
The WSJ offers a glimpse of the two PMs' strategies, and notes that both have
significant holdings in both Hittie Microwave and PriceSmart. The paper also
notes that five of the top 10 funds this quarter are small-cap funds, and one
is a small-mid-cap fund.
