Fernandez's resignation from the firm was effective October 17, according to regulatory filing
. He joined Fairholme in 2008, and Berkowitz reportedly said at the time that he would use Fernandez's expertise in corporate restructurings to make contrarian and deep-value bets, such as his much-maligned bet on St. Joe.
Another pair of former Berkowitz disciples, Keith Trauner
and Larry Pitkowsky
, left the firm and launched
their maiden offering this year.
