Doing what it does best, the judgmental financial research powerhouse
Morningstar has pored through all the ETFs launched by the industry in the past six months, whittling these products down to a
fab five.
They are:
Vanguard Short-Term Inflation Protected Securities Index ETF
Highland/iBoxx Senior Loan ETF
PIMCO Foreign Currency Strategy ETF
IShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF
PowerShares S&P 500 High Dividend Portfolio
In addition to its judgements, Morningstar also made this interesting observation: "the pace of new launches has slowed down considerably--in the past six months, just 54 exchange-traded products have launched. That implies an annual run rate of just over 100 launches, or less than half of the ETF industry's product-launch rate during 2011 and the first part of 2012."
For comparison, when the research firm last picked an ETF fab five in June 2012, the industry had launched 240 such products in preceding 12-months.
