Who Will Fill a C-Suite Spot at American Century?

Reported by Neil Anderson, Managing Editor

Enrique Chang just left American Century [profile], and no replacement has yet been named.

Yesterday the Kansas City, Missouri-based mutual fund shop revealed that Chang, American Century's chief investment officer and executive vice president, stepped down on Friday "to pursue other opportunities." According to American Century, the six discipline CIOs will report directly to president and CEO Jonathan Thomas until he finds Chang's successor.

Chang first took the top investing job at the mutual fund shop in 2007.

American Century Investments Chang to Leave CIO Post

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 8, 2013 - American Century Investments today announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Enrique Chang is leaving the $130 billion investment management firm to pursue other opportunities. While his oversight of the firm's investment management group ended April 5, Chang will be available to assist with an orderly transition.

American Century Investments has six discipline CIOs responsible for the day-to-day oversight and management of its investment disciplines: Fixed Income, Asset Allocation, Quantitative Equity, U.S. Value Equity, U.S. Growth Equity and Global & Non-U.S. Equity. These CIOs, who previously reported to Chang, will report to American Century Investments President and Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Thomas until a new CIO is named.

"Enrique has served as CIO since 2007, and in that time has made significant contributions to the success of American Century," said Thomas. "Enrique and the discipline CIOs implemented a system that brought greater risk awareness and accountability to the investment process. We are fortunate that we have an experienced and well-tenured team of leaders overseeing each investment discipline, who share an unfailing commitment to delivering superior, long-term, risk-adjusted investment performance on behalf of our clients."
