Fifth Anniversary of '08 Crisis Is Like Steroids for Fund Performance

News summary by MFWire's editors

MarketWatch's Chuck Jaffe explains how the effects of the financial crisis will become less and less apparent now that the five year anniversary of Lehman Brothers' collapse has passed.

Mutual fund companies are waiting patiently for that five-year scorecard to get a lot rosier, Jaffe writes, turning relative weaklings into body builders. Taking the fall of 2008 off the books, the cumulative return of an average large-cap core fund would start from 38.82 percent and go to 94.14 percent by the end of the year, Jaffe explains.

But even if the pain of the financial crisis leaves the five year records, it doesn't mean investors don't remember the pain clearly, Jaffe writes. Only time will tell.
