Your colleagues or employees on the trading side of your mutual fund shop may be holding their heads a little bit higher this week.

Wall Street Journal and sister publication Barron's both posted articles highlighting the importance, and the woes, of those who work the magic on mutual funds' trading desks.

The WSJ piece focuses on mutual fund shops' bond traders, with Izzy Conlin of BlackRock, Michael O'Brien of Eaton Vance and Jim Switzer and Ashish Shah of AllianceBernstein as examples of how traders have taken on a more active role within asset managers.

The Barron's piece highlights a single mutual fund stock trader, Chris Carlson of T. Rowe Price, taking you "behind the scenes at a fundster's trading desk."
