The Principal [profile] is about to charge into active ETF territory, and Paul Kim is the one leading the attack.

Barb McKenzie, senior executive director and chief operating officer of Principal Global Investors, confirms that Kim joined the Des Moines, Iowa-based insurer's asset management arm on March 2. Kim takes the newly created position of managing director and head of ETF strategy, with the mandate to build out an active ETF business for the Principal.

ETF Trends and Pensions & Investments both reported on Kim's move.

Kim most recently served as senior vice president and ETF product manager at Pimco. MFWire could not reach a Pimco spokesperson for comment on how Kim's duties are being handled. A Principal spokeswoman declined to comment beyond the release.

"We believe ETFs are a tremendous opportunity for growth for Principal Global Investors," McKenzie states.
