Sullivan Anoints Sales and Marketing Chiefs at Legg

Reported by Ashley McHugh-Chiappone

Joe Sullivan just put two familiar faces in charge of marketing and sales at Legg Mason. Meanwhile, a C-suite exec is moving on and three other execs are joining the executive committee.

Sullivan appointed Fran Cashman, formerly senior managing director, co-head of sales, as global head of communications and engagement. And Jeff Masom, co-head of sales alongside Cashman, now serves as the sole head of sales.

Cashman succeeds Matt Schiffman, global head of marketing, who left last month.

Meanwhile, Cashman and two other executives, John Kenney, the global head of affiliate strategic initiatives, and Patty Lattin, the chief human resources officer, all joined the company's executive committee.

"[Legg Mason] wanted to add some additional perspectives, one on human capital, one on affiliate perspective and one on communications and engagement," Fran Cashman, tells MFWire.

In her new role, Cashman is "looking forward to the opportunity and the power to align a clear, cohesive message across our channels, mediums [and] to all our constituents." She hopes to continue to promote Legg Mason's message in her new role including their goal of investing to elevate lives.

Over the past four years, Legg Mason has been pushing to position themselves in a way that afford their clients the most options, largely by expanding its lineup and revamping their internal structure. These new executive appointments are a step in that direction.

"[We're] striving for a consistent voice across mediums and to reach our different constituents, not just clients, but also investors, our community," Cashman reveals of the new appointments. "Having that touch makes for a much more effective and deeper relationship." Cashman has been with Legg Mason off and on since 1995, having various different roles and responsibilities. In addition to her new role, she also serves as chair of Legg Mason's Executive Diversity Council and co-managing director of Legg Mason Investor Services (LMIS). Prior to that, she served as managing director, national institutional taxable fixed income sales manager at Stifel Nicolaus, and in the field of derivatives and cash management at Nations Bank and Mellon Bank.

As for Masom, he has been with Legg Mason since 2002, serving first as vice president, institutional sales before rising up to managing director.

Schiffman also has had a long career in asset management. He has served as president - alternative wealth management at Manulife Financial, as well as EVP - sales and marketing at Prudential Financial and national sales manager at Lincoln National Corporation all before joining Legg in 2008 as head of U.S. retail distribution.
