Moran Hires a Top Russell Alum

Reported by Lauren Corradi

Brian Moran recently brought a top Russell Investments [profile] alumnus into the fold.

Mark Vincent Spina
FLX Distribution
President, Chief Operating Officer
New York City-based Mark Spina has joined New York City-based FLX Distribution as president and chief operating officer. Moran, FLX's CEO, founded the fintech distribution shop late last year.

A Bucknell University alumnus, before joining FLX, Spina most recently served at Russell Investments for more than three years, as head of Americas, advisor and intermediary solutions, until leaving in February of this year. A Russell spokesperson did not immediately return a call for comment.

"I've known and respected Mark’s work for many years. I’m excited to welcome him to FLX to help forge a new distribution paradigm," Moran stated. "Mark's proven distribution expertise combined with his passion to innovate will help insure that FLX becomes the premier destination for firms looking to break free from their broken distribution models. With Mark, FLX will deliver cost-effective and customized distribution solutions through a proven and well-resourced team."

"I am energized by the opportunity to join Brian at FLX. We are on a mission to improve the engagement between asset managers, advisors and wealth management platforms," Spina stated. "Whether a firm is considering a full distribution partner or is expanding into new channels, products, or geographies, FLX will deliver a solution that improves the effectiveness and ROI of the distribution function. This approach allows our clients to more efficiently dial up or dial down their distribution efforts to better align with market conditions and budgets. In today's environment where every firm is evaluating all facets of their business, FLX is ready to help by providing an alternative to a fully in-house or captive model."

Spina has also been a board member of FLX since March.

Spina's appointment serves as FLX's third hire in recent weeks. In late April, Michael Mastey assumed the newly created role as director of the relationship specialist group, responsible for coordinating distribution teams working with FLX's asset management members.

Prior to Mastey, in early April, FLX welcomed Eric Nastri as director, through which he assumed responsibility for working with the FLX distribution membership, marketing initiatives and the on-boarding and recruiting of asset managers.

Further, FLX has partnered with SS&C ALPS in attempt to provide greater distribution capabilities to asset managers.

Before his time at FLX and Russell, Spina served at Pioneer Investments for two years as head of U.S. intermediary distribution. Prior to that, Spina served at Voya Investment Management for 13 years in a variety of roles including head of intermediary distribution as well as head of strategic marketing and business development.
