A 19-year-old smart beta shop's team recently welcomed a product chief who previously helped a high-profile billionaire.

Que Nguyen Research Affiliates Partner, Head of Product Management

Today Chris Brightman, CEO and chief investment officer of Research Affiliates, confirms that Que Nguyen recently joined the Newport Beach, California-based firm as partner and head of product management. Nguyen most recently served as managing director of portfolio strategy and analytics at New York City-based Willett Advisors, which manages Michael Bloomberg's philanthropic assets. Watch for Nguyen to split her time between Newport Beach and New York City.

At Research Affiliates, Nguyen will report to Brightman and will join the firm's management committee. Ari Polychronopoulos will continue to serve as product management partner and head of ESG at Research Affiliates, and he will now report to Nguyen, a spokesperson for Research Affiliates confirms.

Brightman lauds Nguyen's "track record and expertise with innovative portfolio management." Nguyen, for her part, says she's admired Research Affiliates for years.
"I have an acute understanding of the firm's investment approach and have seen the firm's emphasis on innovation and investor impact," Nguyen states.

Nguyen joined Willett in 2014. Prior to that, she worked with the University of Chicago, Numeric Investors, Morgan Stanley, SSGA, and Barra. She is an alumna of Harvard University.
