Teaming Up, a Nevada OCIO Enters the MF Biz

The folks at a new OCIO shop in Nevada are teaming up to enter the mutual fund business.

Today, Brad Barrie, managing director and chief investment officer of Dynamic Wealth Group (DWG), and David Johnson, managing director and chief operations officer, unveil the launch of the Dynamic Alpha Macro Fund. The fund is Las Vegas-based Dynamic Wealth Group LLC's first venture into the mutual fund space, and it combines an equity strategy (which invests in ETFs) with a futures trading strategy.

The Dynamic Alpha Macro Fund comes in two flavors: investor shares (DYMAX), with an expense ratio of 239 basis points; and institutional shares (DYMIX), with an expense ratio of 199 bps. The fund is a series of Advisors Preferred Trust.

Rockville, Maryland-based Advisors Preferred LLC [profile] serves as the investment advisor to Dynamic's new fund, while Dynamic serves as subadvisor and AG Capital Management Partners, L.P. serves as futures trading advisor. The PM team includes: Barrie; Johnson; and Asim Ghaff, president, CIO, and chief compliance officer of AG.

Catherine Ayers-Rigsby, president of Advisors Preferred, lauds the Dynamic folks as "an impressive team that brings a refreshing approach emphasizing investor psychology and eduation."

"We believe in multidimensional portfolio construction in hopes of providing smoother investing experience for clients," Barrie states.

"We are particularly enthusiastic about bringing advanced futures trading strategies to the mutual fund space," Johnson states. "We believe that there are opportunities for fundamentals-based trades to provide unique return potential with non-correlation."

The fund's other service providers include: Ceros Financial Services, Inc., an affiliate of Advisors Preferred, as distributor; Cohen & Company, Ltd. as independent accounting firm; Thompson Hine LLP as counsel; U.S. Bank, N.A. as custodian; and Ultimus Fund Solutions, LLC as administrator, fund accountant, and transfer agent.

Barrie is a co-founder and owner of DWG and founder of a predecessor organization, Dynamic Alpha Group, Inc. Earlier, he spent 19 years with Ameriprise, where he served as a compliance officer, financial advisor, and training manager. He is an alumnus of Rockford University.

Johnson is a co-founder and owner of DWG. He is also: managing director and CIO of Global Capital Group, LLC, a futures brokerage; principal and founder of Global Capital Investments, LLC, a commodity trading advisor; and general partner of the Global Capital Markets Fund, L.P., a global macro hedge fund. Earlier, he spent more than 21 years with Honeywell Aerospace after starting his career as a systems engineer at NASA. He is an alumnus twice over of the University of South Florida.
