The NASD and the NYSE thought long and hard about the name for their new combined SRO, but alas, Securities Industry Regulatory Authority or SIRA was not meant to be.
The WSJ reports that Muslims have been complaining about the new name as it sounds similar to Sirah, which refers to the biographies of the Prophet Muhammad. The newest winning name is Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, or FINRA.
