Columbia Looks Inside to Find CIO

Columbia Management has appointed Colin Moore as chief investment officer. Moore, who joined Columbia as head of equities in 2002, will expand his responsibilities to provide direction for all investment activities at Boston-based asset manager. Moore earlier served as chief investment officer for global and international equities at Putnam. The title of CIO was previously held by Keith Banks, who is the president of Columbia Management, according to a company spokeswoman. Banks remains president.


Columbia Management today announced the appointment of Colin Moore as chief investment officer. Moore will expand his responsibilities as head of equity to provide direction for all investment activities at Columbia Management. He will report to Keith Banks, president of Columbia Management.

Some of his responsibilities will include overseeing direct investment strategy and helping to ensure that Columbia maintains its disciplined process while striving towards strong performance across all asset classes (i.e., equity, fixed income and cash). As of June 30, 2007, Columbia Management and its affiliates had $566 billion in assets under management(1).

"Colin and his team have done a terrific job building a disciplined investment process in equities and have driven Columbia's performance to a higher level," said Keith Banks, president of Columbia Management. "Colin's new role will enable him to broaden his impact across the entire investment platform. Since joining Columbia as head of equities in 2002, Moore has led a team of approximately 185 professionals that today manages approximately $269 billion in equity investments. Moore joined Columbia from Putnam Investments LLC, where he was chief investment officer for global and international equities.

Additionally, Moore will have responsibility for spearheading the development and implementation of Columbia's proprietary alternative investment product offering.
