| Scott F. Powers State Street Global Advisors President and CEO | |
State Street's SSgA remains a powerhouse with institutional investors and was one of the creators of the ETF market. Still, its former executive team failed to fully capitalize on that promise building the long-term fund complex to just more than $220 billion of AUM. Compounding the issue were the firm's highly publicized missteps in fixed income during the 2008 meltdown. That opened the door for Powers. He has a mandate to fulfill the Boston firm's place in the firmament and grow the size of SSgA relative to State Street.
Last month's purchase of Bank of Ireland Asset Management is a early step in State Street's effort to build a place in the active equity area.
