Gannett Lures an Exec From Wellington

There's a new chief overseeing Gannett Welsh & Kotler's municipal bond analysts. Today the Boston-based Affiliated Managers Group boutique revealed that Sheila May joined up on Monday as director of municipal research.

May previously worked with sub-advising giant Wellington Management Company.

Harold Kotler, CEO and chief investment officer of GW&K, praised May having "analytical expertise in nearly all sectors of public finance."

GW&K boasts more than $11 billion in assets under management, in separate accounts and in three mutual funds.

BOSTON, June 30, 2011 – Gannett Welsh & Kotler, LLC (GW&K), a manager of active equity and fixed income investment strategies, today named Sheila May to the position of Director of Municipal Research. The appointment is effective June 27, 2011.

Ms. May will be responsible for analyzing municipal bond credits and incorporating the credit function into the firm's portfolio management and trading strategies. Sheila will oversee GW&K’s team of municipal bond analysts.

“With over 25 years of municipal research experience, Sheila has analytical expertise in nearly all sectors of public finance, and she will be an excellent addition to our already strong municipal research team,” said Harold Kotler, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of GW&K.

Ms. May joins GW&K from Wellington Management Company, where she was assigned to institutional portfolios in excess of $10 billion. She was responsible for the introduction of a formal credit research and sector strategy process, as well as the training and managing of research associates. Prior to joining Wellington in 2003, she was a credit analyst at Standish Mellon Asset Management, Fleet/Norstar Investment Advisors and Moody’s Investors Service. Sheila has a Bachelor’s degree from Providence College and Master's degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University. She is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society and the National Federation of Municipal Analysts.
