OMAM Names its Global Marketing Chief

Reported by Armie Margaret Lee

Old Mutual Asset Management tapped Simon Wilson as head of global marketing as part of organizational changes the asset manager is making in its distribution group.

Wilson was previously sales and marketing director at OMAM's London-based affiliate, Old Mutual Asset Managers (UK) Limited, OMAM's London-based affiliate.

Meanwhile, Brian Carroll will remain in his post as head of US distribution. Carroll will continue to head up OMAM's efforts in the sub-advisory, defined contribution investment-only and consultant relations markets.

In October, OMAM brought in Julian Ide as head of global distribution and CEO of Officer of Old Mutual Asset Managers (UK) Limited.

Now on his ninth week at OMAM, Ide has kicked off a search for a head of non-US distribution. Ide serves as interim non-US distribution head while the search is ongoing.

OMAM is also in the process of selling select assets of its mutual fund business to Touchstone Investments. The deal, announced in October and expected to close in the second quarter next year, will move 17 Old Mutual funds to Touchstone.

Old Mutual Asset Management Advances Global Distribution Strategy

BOSTON, Dec. 12, 2011 -- Old Mutual Asset Management (OMAM), the U.S.-based global asset management business of Old Mutual plc, today announced organizational changes in support of its expanded global distribution strategy. This announcement follows the appointment in October this year of Julian Ide to the position of Head of Global Distribution for OMAM, responsible for strategic distribution efforts, including the expansion of OMAM's international reach to promote the affiliates' investment talents and grow assets under management.

Under the new structure Brian Carroll will continue in his role as Head of US Distribution overseeing center-led efforts in the sub-advisory, investment only defined contribution and consultant relations markets. Additionally, Mr. Ide has commenced a search for a Head of Non-US Distribution, who will be responsible for building a team to distribute OMAM's affiliates' products outside the US, including in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Until this process has been concluded, Mr. Ide will assume the role on an interim basis. Mr. Ide also announced today that Simon Wilson, Sales & Marketing Director at Old Mutual Asset Managers (UK) Limited, OMAM's London-based affiliate, will also become Head of Global Marketing in the new global distribution structure.

"Since joining OMAM I have been hugely impressed with the wealth of investment talent within the organization," said Mr. Ide. "It is clear that we are in a very strong position to grow our client assets internationally through our multi-boutique model and by growing our global distribution franchise. These appointments and the new structure of our global distribution team are important steps in our development and will provide OMAM with the expertise and platform to execute on our growth strategy."

Peter L. Bain, OMAM's President and Chief Executive Officer, added, "Julian Ide has made tremendous progress since his arrival just nine weeks ago. His experience in the global investment marketplace, combined with his clear understanding of our affiliates' strengths, positions him to build precisely the distribution organization best suited to expanding our business, particularly in non-U.S. markets."
