It must be the Friday after a July Fourth to make the following the primary question in one of the few mutual fund related articles published: What one fund has outperformed the emerging markets ETF all years except 2009? Guess, anyone?
Nasdaq's Web site
reports that this fund is the
Virtus Emerging Market Opportunities A Fund, according to its prospectus.
The fund's annual return since it was launced in 1999 is 11.36 percent. Expense ratio of HEMZX is 135 basis points.
That track record was enough to win
Virtus [
profile] some positive ink on an otherwise slow day.
Peter Newell, senior portfolio advisor, says the fund shies away from index as well as big names in the emerging market.
The advisor added that they are careful when deciding which countries to invest in. The fund has investments in consumer staples in India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, China and Malaysia.
Newell added that the fund is not pressured to invest in big companies.
