The new rules surrounding the clearing of trades for over-the-counter derivatives could lock European asset managers out of the market. That is the takeaway from Alexandra Fletcher's
article in
Dow Jones.
The wire service reports that European shops "are in the dark" about the new regulations in Europe and the U.S.
"I'm forever having to explain the mechanics of clearing to our OTC clients," an unnamed London-based relationship manager of a global exchange told
Dow Jones. "I can't see why it's such a difficult concept to grasp. It's exasperating."
That leads Fletcher to warn that "asset managers who still want to use OTC derivatives but fail to prepare for the new clearing regime could eventually find themselves locked out of the market."
The full article offers thoughts on the regs' implications for European shops.
