The Wall Street Journal has
waxed poetic on the growing alternative funds trend.

In short, the article doesn't reveal very much that alt-addicts don't already know, but it does reinforce the idea that this asset class is getting hot. For example, it cites stats that indicate advisers to high net-worth investors are likely to increase their allocations to alternative funds on average by nearly three percentage points to 20% of the pie by 2014, according to
Cerulli Associates.

The story also features fund-selection insights from
Jerry Miccolis, chief investment officer at
Brinton Eaton Wealth Advisors, and
Greg Bitz, president of
Metropolitan Financial Group, and
Scott Wetherington, senior portfolio manager at
Lindner Capital Advisors.

Funds noted in the story include the
Calamos Market Neutral Income Fund; the
Wasatch Long/Short Fund;
Guggenheim Managed Futures Strategy Fund; the
Direxion Indexed Commodity Strategy Fund and the
MutualHedge Frontier Legends Fund.
