ProShares' Sapir Makes Two Big Hires

In response to booming growth in the ETF category, ProShares [profile] has made two senior hires.

The Bethesda, MD-based alt ETFs provider, brought on Ramesh Babu as chief technology officer and William Poulin as head of product management.

Babu was previously CTO, NY for Allianz Global Investors , and will report to CFO Tim Coakley.

Poulin, former head of product strategy and development for Columbia Management , will report to Steve Cohen, managing director and head of strategy.

ProShares Announces Two Senior Hires

Crucial Roles Support Firm’s Expansion

BETHESDA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ProShares announced today two key new hires: Ramesh Babu as chief technology officer and William Poulin as head of product management. Both positions provide key support to ProShares’ rapid expansion as a premier provider of alternative ETFs.

“Both are highly skilled and seasoned professionals with over 20 years experience in their fields. Their contributions will play an important role in our continued success as the leader in alternative ETFs.” Mr. Babu, former chief technology officer, NY for Allianz Global Investors, is responsible for providing strategic direction and management of ProShares’ technology infrastructure. He reports to Tim Coakley, chief financial officer.

Mr. Poulin, former head of product strategy and development for Columbia Management, is charged with product positioning and targeting, and ensuring product-related initiatives are prioritized and supported in an integrated fashion. He reports to Steve Cohen, managing director and head of strategy.

Ramesh Babu Mr. Babu has extensive experience in delivering business-driven IT solutions in large global financial services organizations. He has strong business knowledge with in-depth expertise in application development, data management, customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence, security, business continuity and disaster recovery.

Prior to Allianz Global Investors, Mr. Babu held senior IT roles with Neuberger Berman and Lehman Brothers. He holds an MS in computer science from New York Institute of Technology and a BS in electronics and communications from Bangalore University.

William Poulin

Mr. Poulin has a broad background in domestic and international marketing of intermediary-sold funds and institutional asset management, with experience in product line oversight, marketing, product development and multi-channel distribution strategy.

Prior to Columbia Management, where he helped develop the firm’s first alternative strategies, Mr. Poulin held senior product management and marketing roles at Fidelity Investments, Lifeharbor, Inc., Pioneer Investments, and John Hancock Funds. He has an MBA from Fordham University and a BS in management from Keene State College. He holds FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63 registrations.
