AllianceBernstein Discovery Value fund, passed away on June 21, at the age of 45,
Morningstar
reported.
Weiner had joined AB in 1997, first working as a research analyst covering consumer cyclicals and staples for small-cap equity portfolios.
Before that, he had been a project manager at the
Monitor Company.
In addition to running the small and mid cap value team and co-managing the
Discovery Value fund, Weiner also served as PM of a number of other products, including the
NFJ Investment Group LLC, Pacific Select Fund - Small-Cap Value Portfolio,

Phoenix Edge Series Fund - Phoenix Mid-Cap Value Series.
Weiner earned B.S. degrees in both Finance and Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990 and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1994.
The
Discovery Value fund's other investment talent remains, including
James MacGregor, chief investment officer of the Small and Mid-Cap Value Equities team, and three analysts. Nonetheless,
Morningstar has put the fund under review.
