Gabelli Beats His Own $25MM Record

News summary by MFWire's editors

Mario Gabelli just broke a record that he himself set back in 2010.

Mario J. Gabelli
Gabelli Asset Management Company
Chairman, CEO
Fordham News, Greenwich Time, and the New York Post all report that Greenwich, Connecticut-based Gabelli, chairman and CEO of Rye, New York-based Gamco Investors [profile], is donating $35 million to Bronx, New York-based Fordham University. The donation, through the Gabelli Foundation, will cover 47 percent of the $75-million goal for the university's centennial campaign, and it is the largest single donation in the school's history.

A decade ago, Gabelli gave what was then Fordham's biggest donation, $25 million, and the school renamed its business school as the Gabelli School of Business. Then in 2018, Mario Gabelli and his wife, Regina Gabelli, signed on to a famous pledge to give away the majority of their wealth. (Forbes estimates Gabelli's net worth as $1.7 billion.) The couple are both alumni of Fordham.
